Today, we are going to continue our experiment with our new visible thinking routine: Question Starts. Thinking readers ask questions that matter and that start important conversations!

Part 1: Thinking About Transgender Issues

1. Read the Newsela Story assigned to your class about changes in the law around transgender bathroom use.

2. The Right Room (JF <One Post with 3 Questions>): In one discussion post, brainstorm at least one thoughtful question about the issues in the article from each group below. (You will choose one of these to ask your class).

  • What are the reasons…?
  • Suppose that…?
  • What if…?
  • What if we knew…?
  • What is the purpose of…?
  • What would change if…?

3. Old School Thinking (J Q&A): Choose the question from your “The Right Room” assignment that is deepest, thought-provoking, and important. (And answer two or more of your classmates’ thinking questions with thoughtful answers!)
