Background: Writers develop their arguments with reasons and evidence (such as statistics, examples, and expert testimony).

  • Read the Pro/Con article on “sanctuary cities” assigned to you today in Newsela (and show mastery with the quiz).
  • Pro Map (JF Picture): Map the “Pro” author’s argument, quoting the thesis statement, and presenting the big reasons that support the argument and the evidence that supports the big reasons. (Make sure the image is very easy to read). *Note: In the case of this “Pro” argument, you may wish to use the title of the “Pro” section as the thesis statement.
