Objective: Analyze the effect of setting on a story and its characters using clear textual examples.

Setting has a big impact on characters and story.

  • Picture James Bond in an everyday, realistic world without glamor, gadgets and super villains. (He’d be dead!)
  • Picture Harry Potter in a normal world without a secret magical underground of schools and ministries and villains. (He’d probably be a troubled kid in a foster home).
  • Imagine how your life would be different if you were one of Donald Trump’s grandchildren. How would money, travel, connections and power change your day-to-day life?
  • Imagine the life of Beyonce in 2016 compared to the life of an African American woman singer in 1816 when Americans bought and sold each other as slaves.
